"This turntable gets the thumbs up it thoroughly deserves for the fine performance it provided."
Malcolm Steward, Hi Fi Choice
For out and out performance, this deck has it all. Capable of outperforming many decks on the market at many times it’s price - the Calypso MK3 is simply without peer.
Strengths lie in it's superb transparency, dynamics, and tangible sound staging. Very neutral and system friendly, it suites most systems exceptionally well.
The Calypso improves on lower decks in the range by virtue of a significantly upgraded motor supply, improved isolation of the main bearing along with other aspects such as a high mass solid metal "inertia" disc to damp vibration in the plinth.
Options include a 12 inch arm mount, or dual armboard which can be ordered using the option button below.
You may be asking yourself whether the differences between turntables are really that significant, and also wondering how much you should invest in a good front end. To make an informed choice on how a better deck will dramatically improve your system performance, please see "Why decks really matter". This also reveals the story behind our cutting edge performance and introduces many aspects that apply to all our decks, saving repetition that would otherwise occur on every turntable page.
Arm Mount - The deck includes an arm mounting to fit all Origin Live 240mm (9.5") arms. For full details on other arms that will fit please see link "What arms fit ". A mounting option to fit 12" arms is also available in the order options, but this is not in addition - it is an "either" "or" choice. You can change over to a 12" option at a later date but there is a considerable saving if you order it with the deck in the first place.
Designed as an object of Art, the Calypso is beautifully sculpted in stylish curves with polished black finish that will be a major asset in all surroundings.
Techincal Features :
- Heavy inertia disc for mounting the sub-chassis - this reduces the effects of vertical modes of vibration.
- Inertia disc pods to resist rotational forces due to ground bourn and air bourn vibration
- "Ultra" control circuit - higher grade components and improved performance.
The regulated power supply of this motor is load compensating as well as being stable across a wide range of temperatures. Speed control is easily switched electronically between 33 and 45 rpm (78 rpm is also available on request).
There is nothing to go "out of tune" on the Calypso turntable. The turntable is a non-suspended design and the centre loading makes it simple to set up and fuss free. VTA arm adjustment is provided for Rega and Origin Live arms, which makes setting the arm height much easier.
